What is SSD?

SSD (Solid State Drive) is a large amount of memory (60 GB - 1TB) in solid state (no moving parts like spinning disk, CD, DVD, tape etc.). Since there are no moving parts, SSD is very reliable and has ability to write and read data extremely fast (up to 6 Gb/s = 500 MB/s). To take advantage of such speed, SSD can be configured as booting device (MS Windows) and also software can be installed on SSD (such as HD video editing program, CAD etc.). SSD can work together with HDD which can be configured as storage to store regular data (pictures, documents etc.) SSD use the same interface as HDD (SATA II, SATA III). Can be installed in  laptops and desktops.
